The group of artists from Russia, comprising Tatiana Arzamasova (1955), Lev Evzovich (1958), Evgeny Svyatsky (1957) and Vladimir Fridkes (1956), is the only collective present in this exhibition. They have burst in the art scene of the last decade with a very distinctive imagery, immediately recognizable, decadent and captivating at the same time. The charm of AES + F lies in the unique type of animation they manage to create with the aid computer processed video and photographic images. They put their characters – good looking people, most typically young and languid girls and boys reminding of Nineties fashion models – in digitally designed scenarios, intentionally resembling flashy sets and scenographies. Although “living”, the actors are reduced to automatons or dummies by the slow and repetitive movement of their bodies. The vacuous and static expressions of their faces match the slowness of the aimless gestures.

In 2013, AES + F's work was exhibited in the exhibition The Garden of Forking Paths: Exploring Independent Animation at OCAT Shanghai.
